Casuarina Kingscliff series
This work was created from automatic drawings in my travel journal. I took a small selection of paints, inktense blocks, graphite sticks and charcoal on a surf trip to Casuarina late last year. The surf at Kingscliff became very wild and I wanted to capture the energy left by the wind in the casuarina trees along the walkway to the beach.

Mount Canobolas Series
These works were inspired from smaller plein air works in my journal. Earlier this year I visited Mount Canobolas, near Orange in the central west of NSW. Two years ago the area was effected by a fire that blazed for 4 days. It is beautiful in its recovery.
I used charcoal in this painting to express the strong graphic nature of the charred trees and debris left from the fires, this works in contrast with the soft greens and greys of the regenerating bush and the pink orange of the earth. I used pencil and inktense blocks to add the energy of the new growth.

Blue Pools... Mount Aspiring National Park, NZ
This work was created from the works in my travel journal that I took to New Zealand last year. I travelled in a van around the South Island capturing the colours and gestures of the landscape. Through automatic drawing and layering of paint I wanted to record the unique landscape of the Makarora River. A mature beech and podocarp forest surrounds the pure glacial water gathered from the mountains. The grinding from the movement of the ice of the glacier creates a rock flour that gives the water it’s incredible blue.
